We stayed at the Westin Ka’anapali Ocean Resort Villas on Maui. This hotel is a timeshare that is owned by Starwood Hotels. They also allow you to book a room as you would at any other hotel or redeem Starwood Hotel points at this location. We booked 2 of our nights using cash and points and the third night solely with points. The hotel was categorized as a level 5 hotel, which we thought was an amazing deal. Well, apparently so did Starwood. This year the hotel has been recategorized as a level 6, so you’ll need a lot more points to stay there.
We arrived at the hotel a couple of hours earlier than when check-in was allowed. We were pleasantly surprised that the hotel allowed us to check in early since our roomed had already been cleaned and was ready. We had booked a studio room, but we were given a one bedroom. That made our trip so much nicer. We had the kids sleep on the sleeper sofa in the living and we had a room to ourselves.
The suite was beautiful. The part of the hotel we were staying in was built only a few years ago. The kitchen had stainless steel appliances and granite countertops. We were in a first floor room that looked out onto the koi pond. We were a little distance away from the pools so we had no issues with noise levels. I was surprised that we actually liked being on the first floor. It gave us easy access to the pools and the beach. There were several pools including a river pool and a pool with a pirate ship for the kids.
The grounds were immaculate and the staff was friendly. We rented a boogie board at the pool shop. The boys liked “surfing” the waves. This hotel is on the northern end of Ka’anapali beach. It’s located north of Black Rock and as a result people staying at hotels like the Marriott, Hyatt, and Westin don’t walk all the way down to this part of the beach. That made the beach semi-private. There was never an issue finding a place to put down our towels. And there were many times we were almost the only people on the beach.
