I grew up in a large family. I am one of eleven kids. My mom is one of eleven and my dad is one of ten. Growing up, we were always looking for ways to stretch a dollar since my dad was a teacher and my mom was a full-time mom.
However, we still went on a couple of big family vacations. When I was 8, all of us, except my oldest sister, drove across the country in a van to visit our relatives in California. The next year, my parents and 7 of the kids drove down to Texas. And my dad made a point of giving each of the kids the option to take one trip out to California with him. Those trips made me realize how important travel is to seeing the world from different points of view.
Now I’m a mom with 2 kids and my husband and I want to pass along the love of travel to them. I do not have endless means and so I’ve learned a lot of techniques that allow me to travel at much lower costs than most people.
The best vacation deal that I’ve done so far was a vacation to Hawaii. In total for 4 roundtrip tickets and 6 nights at a 4-star hotel on Maui, we paid $115. All trips won’t be that inexpensive, but I’m sure we can learn a lot of each other.
