I love Woot. It started out as one web site where they sold one item a day at big discounts (typically electronics). They have expanded the family to include Woot, Kids Woot, Shirt Woot, Home Woot, Wine Woot and Sellout Woot. Sellout Woot is the only site that doesn’t sell one item a day. I equate Sellout Woot to Slickdeals or Fatwallet where they post good deals that they find around the internet. They are not the direct sellers.
Well, on special days, the Woot sites have woot-offs! What are woot-offs? I’m glad you asked. They are days where the site sells one thing at a time. However, when that item sells out, they put another item up for sale. So you can grab many great deals throughout the day. You can buy up to 3 of each item and shipping is a flat $5 for each group of items you get (i.e. each order has a $5 shipping charge whether you buy 1 or 3 of that item).
Today is one of those special days. There is a woot-off on Woot, Kids Woot, Home Woot and Wine Woot. And they have their annual “ugly sweater” t-shirt for sale on Shirt Woot.
One of my favorite travel items is going to be an Amazon Lightning Deal Today at 3:15 PM ET – the Monster 4 Outlet Travel Power Strip. Amazon shows it’s regular price as $19.99 and it’s current price as $14.84. So it should be lower than $14.84 at the lightning time. The reason I love this product is finding places to charge your electronics when you’re at an airport can be challenging. However, if you have one of these, you only need to find one outlet to charge several items. Also if you can’t find a free outlet, you can ask someone at an outlet if they will share it will you.
Small Business Saturday was a huge success for us! Our local toy store, Over the Rainbow Toys, was participating. They also were running a 20% off your entire purchase sale! I used my 2 Amex cards at this store. They only have 3 store locations in Connecticut. It’s amazing to me that a local toy store can stay in business with all of the big box retailers. The store focuses on service and community. They gift wrap every present for free. And they give back to the community. I run Bingo Night for my boys’ school every year. This store donates several toys for our prize table. I bought 2 Lego Star Wars sets and 2 Lego mini-figures for their stockings. I will end up spending $5 out of pocket. Sweet!
My husband used his Amex credit to buy wine at our local liquor store. Every year we have a holiday party at our house for our kids’ friends and their parents. My friend and I make gingerbread houses for all of the kids to decorate and take home with them. We also have an ornament exchange for the kids. This year, we decided to add a fun activity for the parents. So we are having an ugly sweater contest! The winner will win a bottle of wine thanks to Amex.
We also set up the boys’ Christmas tree today. I got the tree from Ocean State Job Lots, which is a discount store in the Northeast. I wasn’t expecting the highest quality tree, considering I only paid $25 for it. But I thought that would be perfect for the boys’ room. They loved decorating their tree! I have to say that I love the Charlie Brown tree.
Every post until Christmas, I will include a quote from a Christmas special or movie. See if you can guess what it’s from. I have 2 for you today:
- “You smell like beef and cheese. You don’t smell like Santa.”
- “And on a dark cold night, under full moonlight, he flies into the fog like a vulture in the sky!”
This Saturday is Small Business Saturday. As I’ve mentioned in an earlier post, American Express is offering a $25 credit on your account if you spend at least $25 at a small business this Saturday. You are required to register your card to be eligible to get the deal. You can register as many American Express cards as you have. This includes both unbranded ones (like the Amex Gold) and co-branded ones (like Starwood and Citi AAdvantage Amex). Go to this site to register.
I did this last year and it worked perfectly. The only complaint I had is there was no list of business that American Express considered a small business. I’m happy to say this year, there is a list. Go to their Facebook page. You can enter a zip code and it will list out small businesses in that area code that accept American Express.
You can use the credit at a number of businesses including retail stores, restaurants and grocery stores (we have a local grocery store near our house that takes American Express). So get creative!
In case I don’t get to post tomorrow, Happy Thanksgiving to everyone! May you enjoy good food and good company!
Here is another site where you can get free holiday cards. Mypublisher.com has 2 different promotions. The first is for 5 free cards and the second is for 10. Make sure you do the 5 free cards first because it’s for new users. You simply enter your email address and the site will give you a code for the 5 free cards. To get 10 free, just use coupon code HAPPY10FREE at checkout.
So you can get 15 free cards per email address. These are completely free – no shipping charges. You don’t even have to enter a credit card number for the offer.
What I love about these deals is that you can get folded cards for free! That allows you to include a message on the inside. There are many designs and layouts for each of the sides of the cards. I created one that had 5 pictures on the front, 4 on the left side of the inside of the card, a message on the right side, and 3 pictures on the back. There are 3 types of paper finish you can choose – satin, matte and textured matte. I suggest the textured matte. You get lined cards which you can customize the liner. They will also print a return address on the envelopes.
All of this is free! I’m not sure of the expiration date for the 5 free cards offer. The 10 free card offer ends on November 21.
