Every year I have a goal to get all of my Christmas cards for free. It usually is not very difficult if you monitor Slickdeals during November and December. It looks like this year is an easy year. Here are 2 Slickdeals posts that will allow you to get the cards for free.
- Staples – 10 cards for free in-store. http://slickdeals.net/forums/showthread.php?t=3482538 The coupon is good until 11/12/11. You’ll want to print out the coupon and go to the store. If you do it on-line, the shipping is going to be $9.95, which hardly makes it a deal.
- Rite Aid – 15 cards for free in-store pick-up. http://slickdeals.net/forums/showthread.php?t=3521796 This deal also tells you how to get 25 4×6 prints for free. You can do all the work on-line and then select in-store pickup.
If my husband and I both do these deals, we’ll have 50 photo cards for free. We usually send out about 60 cards, so we almost there. I’m sure we’ll see other deals.
You can get discounted tickets to the Radio City Christmas Spectacular if you’re willing to go a little off season. Here’s the information from Travelzoo:
After more than 75 years and countless high-kicks, the “Radio City Christmas Spectacular” has become an iconic New York City holiday experience. Travelzoo subscribers can save 30% on tickets for the show at Radio City Music Hall. Snag seats early while the best locations are still available.
From Nov. 11-23 and Nov. 28-Dec. 2, the best prices are available:
•2nd Mezzanine … $38.50 (reg. $55)
•Select Orchestra and 1st Mezzanine … $52.50 (reg. $75)
These same seats are $52.50-$77 (regularly $75-$110) from Nov. 24-28 (Thanksgiving weekend) and select performances Dec. 3-23 and Jan. 2.
Backed by stunning, larger-than-life scenery and a 40-piece orchestra, the world-famous Radio City Rockettes celebrate everything about the Christmas season. Newly revamped for the 2011 season, the show features a 3DLive video game adventure and brand new Rockette numbers alongside favorites like the “Parade of the Wooden Soldiers.”
Travelzoo Tip: Be sure to select the “TicketFast” option to print your tickets at home — this added convenience is free with this deal.

In an earlier post, I talked about how much I liked our Sansa MP3 player. We download books from our library to listen to on the plane and long car rides. The reason I suggest a Sansa is it plays WMA protected files. Most books that you can download from libraries are WMA protected files, not MP3s. Our library has a few books that can be played on iPods or other MP3 players, but I would say that 90%+ of the books are WMA protected files.
Radio Shack has a sale on the SanDisk Sansa 4GB Clip this week through 9/10. We own one of these. My only complaint is that when you jump between books, it doesn’t save the location of the previous book (at least not that I know of). You can pay to have it shipped to your house or free shipping to a store is available.
I have seen refurbished ones for less (as low as $23), but these are not refurbished. If you want a refurbished one, keep an eye on slickdeals.net. They usually post when they are on sale.
Here are the links to the Radio Shack sale:
- Red – Still available on-line and in stores (free ship to store)
- Black – in stores only
- Purple - in stores only
Today begins day 6 without power…I might need to use this next deal.
As part of their September of Savings promotion, Subway has 6-inch Meatball Marinara or 6-inch Cold Cut Combo subs on sale for $2 at participating locations all month!
Today’s post isn’t totally about travel savings. I don’t like to pay retail for anything especially when I buy something on-line. Retailmenot.com is a site where people post discount codes for web sites. Before I make a purchase on-line, I go to Retail Me Not and search for codes for the web site I’m shopping on. As an example, whenever Kohl’s is running their 15, 20, or 30% off sales, you can always find the 30% off code on the site.
Over the next few days, I’ll be talking about keeping miles active and best ways to use American Airlines and British Airways miles. If you have any specific questions, let me know and I’ll try to address them.
